RHONJ "Kim D"
Location: New Jersey
We had the honor of interviewing Posche owner Kim DePaola. She definitely knows how to organize the most fabulous fashion shows in New Jersey. You may in fact have seen her in past seasons of the Real Housewives Of New Jersey as Teresa Giudice’s best friend. Moreover, this month she won the "Real Housewives Awards" as the "Best Supporting Agitator."
1. Please give us a brief introduction about yourself.
Since I was really young there was two things that I loved and hoped to always have. Those two things were fashion and animals. Today, I have 7 dogs and I own a boutique. So I can say I fulfilled my two dreams!
2. Can you give us a quote!
“Women should be strong and not tolerate pity!” I am a strong person – I don’t tolerate people feeling sorry for myself. I play with the big boys”
3. What does fashion mean to you as the owner of an internationally well-known boutique?
First of all I don’t like when somebody is a slave to fashion. Just because something is in style doesn’t mean you have to wear it - doesn’t mean you have to like it either. I think fashion should be classic, women should look sexy but conservative. I don’t believe in dressing for your age. I believe if you have the body and the legs you should walk it. In fact, I intend to wear my black leather shorts this summer with a well tailored shirt, a pony tail and a pair of pumps. I don’t like women to say “oh, we have to cut our hair when we turn a certain age.” That is bologna! Women should stay sexy and fresh all the time.
4. Has being a boutique owner as well as an accessory designer been something you have always wanted to do?
Absolutely yes! Since I can remember I’ve always liked clothes - I always had the most fabulous outfit. I Would wear something different to school everyday. So yes, I love clothes and I love fashion.
5. How did you begin with Posche? And where did the name come from?
The name Posche is inspired by Victoria Beckham, because I am so obsessed with her and I love that she is so posh. So I sat in my garage floor with a friend, and we kept thinking of all different ways to spell posh. Every time we came clicking it in to spelling it - all the other ways were taken. We kept spelling it a different way until we stopped at Posche. It was happen chance – it wasn’t like “oh, we wanted to spell it Posche.”
6. Using three adjectives - how would you describe your business?
Fashion forward, Sexy yet Chic, and we are very Posh.
7. Tell us how you got the idea of creating a fabulous line of cuffs?
First of all my I got the inspiration from Wonder Woman’s cuffs because I knew we could send the message of women empowerment. Well I had an idea because I had gone into a real jewelry store and at that time I had done a fashion show with these people. We are talking of big designers… so I bought a leather cuff with diamonds and I wanted to do something more affordable. So, I was asked by this jewelry company what my favorite jewelry was and I had shown them the picture of it. Then we just went from there. Plus, we have everything made in America, which I love!!
8. Where do you get inspiration from when designing the cuffs?
I get the inspiration from Wonder Women – and of course the paws from my animal rescue.
9. Do you think in the future we can see a Kim D clothing line?
You know I would love that! But it’s pretty swamped right now. And I don’t want to be like a cookie cutter – you know everyone is doing that right now. So I might think of something else going forward with my animals – we are almost thinking of now creating an ankle bracelet with a little paw hanging from it. Something cute!
10. How are brands picked to be featured in Posche? What designers can we find in your store?
We have Diane Von Furstenburg, Alice and Olivia, Sky, Torn, Nadiatarr, Seven Jeans, Jovani, Boulee, and David Lerner.
11. What is the best-selling item in your boutique?
I would say my cuffs and my Posche T-shirts and sweatshirts.
We have seen Posche featured in RHONJ and we want to know..
12. What has been your favorite experience as a boutique owner?
I like when the housewives come shopping here. Because we drink a little champagne and have some fun. I love that they show my store and the girls shopping. My favorite scene last season was when Teresa and Jacqueline came to the store – that was so cute!
13. Can you tell us a little bit about how Posche got to be featured in the Real Housewives?
Happen chance again! Danielle Staub and Jacquline Laurita came the second month that I opened and they were just filming their first season.
Not only is your store part of the RHONJ show but you are also part of it.
14. What was your reaction when Bravo approached you about being a part of RHONJ?
I loved it! I was open to it, happy, and so thrilled! I had just opened my store in September and in October Bravo wanted to feature my fashion show. I think my store is maybe - besides Dash (owned by the Kardashians) that is on an international TV show. Not many boutiques have this opportunity.
15. How do you feel about being a reality star?
I love it! I love that I just won the award to the Real Housewives. I am so warmly embraced everywhere I go…every state, every town, people come from all over the world – Australia, England, Canada.. and want to come to Posche and talk to me. I don’t feel I have had any downsides from being on the show, really.
16. What is the best experience of being part of RHONJ?
The fans that come to the boutique and I like filming with the girls that is fun! I also like filming my fashion shows. But it’s more of the fans – getting to meet all these people. I love seeing their reactions and loving Posche. They want to come and take pictures and buy my t-shirts. That to me is the best experience I’ve had from being on the show.
17. Would you like to have your own reality TV show and be the star of it?
Yeah! For me its about supporting myself. For me it’s not about the fame. I truly believe that from being on the show we are all famous. I mean we are not movie stars but we are famous. Its not about the fame it has always been about my business sense and making money. But If I did do my own show it be for the business aspect of it. Although, I would much rather be a producer.
18. Do you have any advice for those wanting to pursue a career in media or in the fashion industry?
I would say there is a lot of competition in the fashion industry! So get a lot of background. I think Rachel Zoe is a fabulous example and you should kinda follow her footsteps. It’s a tough economy to be putting up a boutique but if it is your dream - start small. Always start from the bottom and learn everything you can. If it is in your blood you have to do it! Do the best you can and take your chances. You should begin as a sales person and learn every aspect of the business, don’t be afraid of going out there and working for minimum wage for a while as you are going to school. In no business can you start at the top!
19. Any future plans for Posche Boutique? Could we expect to find a Posche Boutique across the United States?
I would like to do a Posche boutique in Florida around the Del Rey area - mainly because I get an insane amount of people that are from Florida and they beg me to open a Posche boutique in Florida. I think it would do very well.
We wish Kim D the best in all her projects and we know she will keep rocking those Posche Fashion Shows! If you would like to purchase one of her cuffs or any clothing mentioned please visit her website: http://shopposche.com and visithttp://www.bravotv.com for the latest RHONJ news. I would also like to remind my fellow readers that you should adopt a partner for life at your local shelter!!
